Determine the required amount of luxury silk coverlet adjustment by calculating the perimeter of the silk coverlet. Take the length and width measurements you found to reach this number. Take the height and multiply by two. Take the width and multiply by two. Add the two resulting numbers together, and you will have the total perimeter of the quilt in inches. Keep in mind that you will sew the quilt in a smaller shape than the initial amount of fabric purchased, so you will have an extra cut of what you need, but it is better to have a little more that is not enough. You will need enough fabric for the front and back of the quilt. Buy the necessary amount of fabric in two colors or different patterns. Any fabric will work for a quilt, but to facilitate sewing, opt for cotton. Buy enough trim to go around the entire perimeter of the quilt as determined.

Cut the fabric to the front of the great silk coverlet in three panels, a center panel and two side panels to reach the necessary width. The panels are necessary because the fabric will not be wide enough in one piece. The center panel should be twice as wide as the two panels on the sides. For a marriage quilt, it would have a center panel approximately 45 inches wide by 94 inches long, and each side panel would be approximately 22.5 inches wide by 94 inches long. Repeat this process with the fabric on the back of the quilt. Sew the panels together to create the front and back pieces. When sewing panels together, put them on the top of the other with good sides. Pin along the edge to be joined. Use the sewing machine to sew the seam, leave a seam allowance of ΒΌ inch for each seam. This means there will be a quarter inch edges of the raw fabric outside the seams.
